Christmas Cheer #5

handmade greeting card, collage art

This is the Solstice card I sent out last year.  I use images of Yggdrasil, the Norse Tree of Life, in a lot of my Solstice pieces.  I’m working on an art quilt of Yggdrasil to eventually hang on my door, but it’s far from complete.  I’ll share it when I’m done.

So not to be dumb, but do you do the artwork yourself? If so, you are exceptionally talented. I love it!

I knew the name Yggdrasil, even sailed to Norway, but now I’m learning much much more on the good ship SS Wyatt, thank you…
“An ash I know there stands,
    Yggdrasill is its name,
    a tall tree, showered
    with shining loam.
    From there come the dews
    that drop in the valleys.
    It stands forever green over
    Urðr’s well.”

Ooo, thanks for the verse! From “The Edda”, if I’m not mistaken. Old Norse. I can just see Odin with his One True Eye glaring over the pages. Or in my case, Anthony Hopkins reading in his lovely voice.
